Position Summary

Responsible for providing nutritional care and therapy to patients of all ages and settings within University Hospital Sharjah. Assuming responsibility for the overall organization and administration of clinical nutrition services within University Hospital Sharjah

Summary of Main Duties


•    Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital – Sharjah (UHS)
•    Complies with all UHS policies and procedures and fire regulations 
•    Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards 
•    Conducts nutritional assessments, reassessments, implementation of nutritional care plans, using medical nutrition therapy, ensuring adherence to policy and procedure and correct utilization of documentation
•    Develop and manage therapeutic diets (oral, enteral) 
•    Provides nutritional education to patients and family members
•    Provides counselling services to patients with disease processes that require nutritional management (inpatient/outpatient)
•    Creates and revises (according to best practice) educational materials on medical nutrition therapy related to disease management
•    Provides consultation services/acts as a resource to other members of the multi-disciplinary team on nutritional management
•    Member of the multi-disciplinary team, recommending evidence based practice nutritional management
•    Assist in the maintenance of a controlled nutritional program which adheres to both patient and budgetary requirements.
•    Provide education for food service personnel
•    Develops, implement and updates internal policies and   procedures
•    Directs and coordinates activities of Clinical Nutrition staff
•    Develops and manages the nutritional department KPIs (quality/patient care related and management)
•    Develops and implements the nutritional department scope of service
•    Control department resource through appropriate planning, utilization, evaluation and data analysis
•    Approves menu changes in collaboration with Food Services
•    Represent the department on hospital committees, as assigned
•    Monitors all department activities
•    Assists with the selection and recruitment programme in conjunction with HR and the DON 
•    Orients and evaluates all new staff to the department, ensuring competency guidelines are adhered to 
•    Interacts with Support Services to maintain stocks of nutrition supplies, recruit employment candidates, coordinate meal service and other issues as they arise
•    Facilitates Nutrition Services Performance Improvement projects 
•    Evaluates the quality, safety and appropriateness of all department functions
•    Develops long/short term goals and objectives of the department
•    Develops employee's educational and motivation program and participates in continuing education
•    Will retain all necessary registration/license requirements
•    Maintains and engages with ongoing professional development, through independent study, conferences
•    Adheres to licensing regulations
•    Works any shift as per the duty roster of the Dietary Department when designated
•    The employment  terms and conditions for this position are specified in the individuals Employment Contract

•    Bachelors degree (clinical dietetics/nutrition)
•    Minimum of 2 years of acute hospital dietician experience
•    For UAE nationals – upon completion of licensing requirement

Licenses/Registration  

 •    SHA Registered Dietitian
•    BLS certificate
