Position Summary

The Neurology Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating physiotherapy interventions for patients with neurological disorders. The role involves providing evidence-based rehabilitation to improve patients' mobility, functional independence, balance, coordination, strength, and overall quality of life. The physiotherapist works collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient-centered care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice

Summary of Main Duties

  • Actively participates in upholding and promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital – Sharjah (UHS)
  • Complies with all UHS policies and procedures and fire regulations
  • Participates in all aspects of the International Accreditation program to assist UHS attain and maintain international accreditation standards
  • Participates in commissioning assigned areas and associated Clinical areas
  •  Perform comprehensive neurological physiotherapy assessments using standardized clinical tools and outcome measures.
  •  Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical findings, patient goals, and evidence-based practices.
  • Assess and treat patients with neurological conditions, including but not limited to:
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
  • Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Peripheral neuropathies
  • Vestibular disorders
  • Guillain-Barré Syndrome
  • Motor neuron diseases

Responsibilities

  • Accepts clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patient and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • Work closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, rehabilitation physicians, nurses, speech and language therapists, psychologists, prosthetists/orthotists, and social workers.
  • Provides spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to colleagues and other professionals, to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and ensures a consistent approach to patient care.
  • Trains, supervises and manages performance of more junior staff, technical instructors, assistants and students, ensuring high standard of care.
  • Communicates effectively with patients to maximise rehabilitation potential and to ensure understanding of condition.
  • Communicates effectively and work collaboratively with medical, nursing and therapy colleagues to ensure delivery of a coordinated multi-disciplinary service. This will include case conferences, ward rounds and discharge plans.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

Master's Degree in Neurological Physiotherapy (MPT Neurology) or equivalent

     Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in neurological rehabilitation within a hospital or rehabilitation setting.
