Position Summary

  • Actively participate in promoting the vision and culture of University Hospital Sharjah (UHS).
  • Adhere to UHS policies, procedures, fire regulations, and international accreditation standards (SHA, JCI, BFHI, FDON).
  • Deliver quality care to antenatal, postpartum women, neonates, and gynecological patients, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, in line with clinical standards and relevant legislation.
  • Regularly assess maternal vital signs, fetal heart rates, labor progression, and document any abnormal findings.
  • Provide care, education, and support on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and neonatal care.
  • Monitor patients undergoing gynecological surgeries or treatments.
  • Provide care for women with gynecological conditions such as abnormal bleeding, infections, and menopausal symptoms.
  • Educate patients on prenatal care, postpartum recovery, contraceptive options, and self-care practices.
  • Offer emotional support and counseling for women dealing with pregnancy complications, loss, or gynecological health issues.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, gynecologists, midwives, and other healthcare professionals in care planning.

Summary of Main Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with legal and institutional requirements.
  • Respond to obstetric emergencies such as hemorrhage, pre-eclampsia, and maternal/fetal distress.
  • Administer emergency medications and interventions as necessary.
  • Assist in training new staff and students.
  • Stay updated on best practices and advancements in obstetrics and gynecology.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care based on individual patient needs and treatment plans.
  • Perform nursing care following current best practices and clinical guidelines.
  • Assist physicians during examinations, procedures, and direct patient care.
  • Ensure a safe patient environment by following infection control practices, safety protocols, and international patient safety goals.
  • Participate in emergency safety practices, including fire safety.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to medication administration policies, ensuring the safe administration of prescribed medications.
  • Monitor patient conditions and report changes promptly.
  • Advocate for patients, ensuring quality care is delivered.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives, in-service education, and committee functions.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of equipment and instruments. Report damages or malfunctions to the Bio-Medical department immediately.
  • Document nursing care throughout patient admission and discharge as per hospital policy.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Ensure unit stock, consumables, and crash cart items are maintained in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Attend mandatory training and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, within scope of practice.
  • Adhere to the employment terms and conditions outlined in the individual’s Employment Contract.

Position Requirements/Qualifications

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with bachelor’s degree in nursing.
  • Minimum 2 years post-graduation experience with at least 1 year in current specialty (OBGyne & VIP).

Desirable

  • BLS Certification.
  • NRP Certification.

 

Required 

  • Current license in country of origin.
  • Current UAE Healthcare Professional Licensure.

Within three months of employment

  • UAE Sharjah Health Authority License.
  • BLS certification.

NRP Certification.

Position criteria Other Skills/Abilities

  • 2 years post graduate experience 
  • Computer literate familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel
  • Must be fluent in written and spoken English, spoken Arabic an advantage

Advantage 

  • Previous UAE experience.
  • Previous experience in a commissioning environment.
  • Previous experience of working in International accredited hospital (JCIA).
  • Participated in Preceptors/Education programs.
